Deep Lobe Parotid Tumors are relatively uncommon. Traditionally treated by formal Superficial Parotidectomy for the identification of the Facial Nerve then removal of the tumor which lies deep to the nerve. That result in disfiguring depression in the pre-auricular and infra-auricular area area.
In This case we preserve the superficial lobe after dissecting the relevant part of the facial nerve to avoid that aesthetic complication. Also, this technique does not affect local tumor control and preserve the salivary gland function.1,2.
we used the Superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) flap which is found to decrease the rate of Frey's Syndrome and enhance cosmetic outcome in parotid surgery.3,4.
