55 politicians who won seats in last week’s elections in Wales, Scotland and England have signed a pledge calling for Universal Basic Income to be trialled.
Members of the Senedd in Wales and parliament in Scotland – plus councillors across England – have promised to lobby for the creation of pilot UBI schemes in their countries or areas.
In the run-up to the elections, the UBI Lab Network, a worldwide group of activists, researchers and citizens, asked candidates to sign a pledge promising to put pressure on governments and councils to launch trials.
A poll carried out for Sophie Howe, the future generations commissioner for Wales, in the run-up to the elections suggested almost three-quarters of people were in favour of a UBI trial.
UBI Matters is an independant advocate for Universal Basic Income (also known as a Guaranteed Livable Income, Freedom Dividend or Social Wage). Politically neutral with a desire to see poverty and inequality vanquished across the planet by the end of the next decade.
