Following the perspective of a solitary bee on a journey through the prairies in search of a wild rose, all roses sleep (inviolate light) is a video installation by Alana Bartol and Bryce Krynski. Through the use of a scratch-and-sniff card and ultraviolet video to mimic the bee’s olfactory and visual experience, viewers are invited to step into a bee’s world and how they experience the land we share.
Listen to Bartol and Krynski share their research and filming processes behind all roses sleep (inviolate light) in this online artist talk as part of the exhibition at Surrey Art Gallery from August 19 to December 3, 2023. Local artist and educator Lori Weidenhammer from Native Bee Society of British Columbia also joined to educate on local native bee species and the important role they play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
