Dr. Cassileth's patient, Vanessa, was diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast in May 2020. She came to see Dr. Cassileth and Dr. Richardson of Bedford Breast Center for Direct-to-Implant Breast Reconstruction after mastectomy.

Dr. Cassileth created an internal bra structure with a dermal matrix on the left and placed the implant over the muscle to bridge the gap between the implant and the chest wall. This prevents drooping at the bottom of the breast pocket, and helps breast symmetry. She placed the right implant in a sub fascial position to match the left.
