It’s almost apples and oranges but not when you’re deciding on budget allocation
Let’s start with Facebook Ads
• Facebook now has 1.71 billion monthly active users
• Facebook now sees 2 billion searches per day, up from 1.5Bn a year ago –
• That’s a rich audience to target
We’ve seen the highest ROI for ads using Facebook, especially with video. The targeting and retargeting are amazing. It’s our first choice when promoting our client’s products through ads.
With Influencers, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram are best but we’re going to focus on Youtube influencers
• Just Youtube alone has over a billion active monthly users
• Youtube is the second biggest search engine and sees 3.5 billion searches a day
• Again a very rich target and that doesn’t include Pinterest and Instagram
The difference between Influencer Marketing and Facebook ads
IM is expensive up front – you need to do a lot of research on the right influencer
Facebook ads can be run for $5 a day until you find the right ad that converts
IM has built in organic traffic. I can virtually guarantee virality with some of our influencers
Facebook ads have very little organic traffic depending on that ad format and it’s very expensive to make a piece of content go viral.
IM on Youtube has tremendous SEO value if optimized properly
Facebook ads have none. And those 2 billion searches that Facebook is claiming are most likely search for people or companies – not a general search.
IM can be time consuming to set up (2 weeks to 30 days on average)
FB ads can be launched in a day
With IM you have content, trust and distribution wrapped up in one package – AND the influencer does it for you.
With FB ads – you need to design, create and shoot (if it’s video) everything
We have found Conversion rates with influencers to be about 6x better than ads
But when an ad on Facebook doesn’t perform you can shut it off.
I could go on, but those comparisons are primary considerations.
The fact is there are a ton of factors that go into a successful campaign, but we’ve found influencer marketing generally performs better. Why? Trust and organic distribution. Moreover, if a Facebook ad is performing well, we’ve always found that a Facebook ad with an influencer performs better and is less expensive than just a regular ad.
