Now in its fourth generation, K-Pop has exploded out of South Korea and onto the global scene. As of 2019, it’s ranked No.6 amongst the top ten music markets worldwide. But what are the dark sides of the genre? And what are the big players in the industry doing to tackle these issues?

From ‘sasaengs’ to scandals and suicides, K-Pop has had more than its fair share of problems in the past few years. The genre is constantly attempting to change and evolve to rectify some of its questionable practices, but has it done enough?

Sub_Terrain digs deep into pockets of the underground music scene, unearthing the stories and timelines beneath the genres that shape contemporary culture. For Episode 7 of the series, we join music journalist and BIMM Institute graduate Abi Scaife in her exploration into the dark sides of one of the fastest-growing music genres sweeping the world.
