Ontario chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams and associate chief medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe provided an update on the province's ongoing efforts to combat COVID-19, as the province reached a total of 377 confirmed cases.
Yaffe announced on Saturday that the province saw its third death related to COVID-19, a man in his 70s who was a close contact of one of the first two deaths.
Williams spoke about issues surrounding testing and efforts to ramp up the process, but stressed it involves several moving parts including getting new equipment out there, chemicals used in the processes to facilities and ensuring quality checks are in place. He said normally getting testing processes would take six to eight weeks and officials are trying to get everything in place in two weeks. He added that they are moving close to getting a maximum of 5,000 tests daily by the end of next week.
