Ah, the Subaru Solterra, shown here in the top spec Touring trim, coming in at around $56k…. Subaru & Toyota’s first dedicated shared EV is a mixed bag and shows the Japanese brands need to play catchup asap. Styling aside, the Solterra offers decent ground clearance and features, is generally comfortable and drives well. 🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: The Subaru developed AWD version gets 215HP and 248 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 7.7sec and 99MPH Top Speed. It uses a 71.4kWh battery pack. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highs:
-Standard AWD, good 8.3in of ground clearance, and a quite smooth ride and steering were shockers to me.
Lows:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-Range is subpar for a $56k vehicle at around 222-228miles and turning the A/C on instantly slashes around 20miles of range.
-Charging speeds are crucial, especially in an EV with low range. The Solterra disappoints here as it can only charge up to 150kw which means 80% charge in 56min on a 100kW DC fast charger. A Hyundai ioniq 5 gets dual motors as well starting at $47k but also gets over 256miles of range and can charge up to 350kw/hr meaning 19-80% in 18min for example.
- I also was not impressed with interior quality on this Solterra with many cheap feeling plastics and excessive gloss black.
-The interior ergonomics and storage are also a hot mess. Buttons are everywhere and randomly placed, there is no glovebox, and cargo is ok at 30 cubic feet, but not impressive (no frunk either). Don’t even get me started on the driver’s display.
