Gabby Petito was an Instagram personality and Youtuber who disappeared while traveling across the United States on a van life journey together with her fiance Brian Laundrie. Gabby’s communication with her family and her social media activity stopped at the end of August 2021. On the 1st of September, and to everyone’s surprise, Brian Laundrie returned home alone, driving the van they were using to travel. Gabby’s parents asked Brian about Gabby Petito’s whereabouts, but he and his family refused to speak. After a missing person report was filed by Gabby’s family, an investigation was launched to find the young woman. Brian was named person of interest, but he ran away avoiding capture.
