Every now and then, we get hatchling corn snakes that refuse to eat anything and everything we offer them. This video demonstrates how we go about forcefeeding (AKA assist feeding) our most stubborn corn snake babies. **This is extremely stressful on a baby snake and must be an absolute last resort.**We STRONGLY advise AGAINST forcefeeding baby western/plains hognose. They can go 4+ months without taking their first meal without ill effect, and they do NOT tolerate the stress of forcefeeding well. They have been known to die afterwards.**
Things we’ve tried (and are still trying) with the baby corns in the video without any success (yet!): boiled, brained, boiled + brained, washing the pinkie with Dawn and Ivory soap, left in deli cup overnight, left in paper bag, placed in a dark quiet cabinet, live pinkie presented in various ways, live hatchling lizard, f/t lizard, f/t baby button quail, pieces of fresh salmon and then sardine, and then all of the following scents: chicken, anole, fence lizard, gecko, frog, toad, salmon, sardine, Vienna sausage, egg, and God knows whatever else I’m forgetting. 🤷🏻♀️
