SC20-243 Norman Blake McKenzie v. State of Florida
St. Johns County - Begins at 9:00 a.m. ET
McKenzie was convicted and sentenced to death for the 2006 first-degree murders of Randy Peacock and Charles Johnston. This Court upheld his convictions and sentences on direct appeal. However, McKenzie filed a postconviction challenge in the trial court and was granted a new penalty phase pursuant to Hurst v. State. At resentencing, McKenzie was sentenced to death for both murders. This is McKenzie’s direct appeal of his sentences.
SC19-1851 Donald H. Davidson Jr. v. State of Florida
Clay County - begins about 9:40 a.m.
Davidson pled guilty to first-degree murder for killing Roseann Welsh, who was strangled and stabbed in 2014. Davidson waived his right to a penalty-phase jury, and the trial judge ultimately sentenced him to death. This is his direct appeal.
