Growing up in New England, I’ve come to love the changing of the seasons. Every few months as the weather changes, so too does everything else in your life, from the clothing you wear, to the food you eat, to the activities you plan, it seems that your lifestyle can become seasonal as well. Leaves changing color means back-to-school, pumpkin spice goodies, and sweatshirts; snow starts to fall means hot cocoa, sweaters and Christmas shopping; snow starts to melt means spring cleaning, rain showers and Easter Bunny; long hot sunny days means barbeques, iced drinks and vacations. It’s all cyclical, predictable and absolutely wonderful! Despite all the awesomeness that comes with the shift in weather patterns, the one thing I look forward to most with each season, are the flowers. I can’t get enough! Having fun in the sun with sunflowers, poppies, pentas, petunias, zinnias, begonias, jumping in leaves with mums, lilies, daisies, magnolias, irises, snugging up next to the fire with poinsettias, primrose, viola, crocus, and springing for joy in the spring with pansies, daffodils, tulips and roses! Each season’s new bloom represents a passing of the torch, closure to the past, and hope for the future. So, join me for this easy acrylic painting tutorial and capture the essence of all four seasons into one breathtaking image with daffodils, lupines, mums and poinsettias! The first lesson you’ll learn in this beginner level painting tutorial is how to use simple color mixing and painting techniques for blending the background for added depth and atmospheric dimension creating a natural complimentary backdrop for the four blocks representing each season, the perfect backdrop for your flower painting. Then, after using chalk to draw the outline for your posy, you’ll paint base coats on your florets to build off of. The next art tip you’ll learn in this canvas painting lesson is how to paint stems and leaves with a simple one stroke technique. Taking each flower one at a time, you’ll layer colors to accentuate the contours and form with properly placed highlights and shadows to develop dimension and texture to each bloom that will create realistic looking petals creating a 3-d photo realistic appearance. You’ll finish off this easy art lesson by adding your own personalized signature. Using only 3 brushes and 8 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece that is sure to bring warm sentiment to everyone. Not just a beautiful painting, but and easy painting for beginners. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!
