Pyeloric Stenosis in infants is the commonest surgical cause of vomiting in babies.
Congenital Hypertrophic Pyeloric Stenosis causes projectile and non bilious vomiting in babies from 2 weeks to 6 Weeks old. Babies don't respond to medical treatment and become dehydrated due to recurrent vomiting. There is loss of electrolyte in vomiting leading to Metabolic Alkalosis. The babies don't gain weight and are dehydrated and constipated.
Diagnosis of Pyeloric Stenosis is made by Ultrasound. X-ray and Barium Meals study is usually not required.
Treatment of Congenital Pyeloric Stenosis is surgical. It's called Ramsted's Pyloromayotomy.
Outcome is usually good and chances of recurrences are almost nil.
