Thornton Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard canceled the budget hearings on Tuesday night after an hour-long wait due to a lack of quorum. The meeting, attended by over 50 residents, was meant to approve the next township budget. Despite waiting for 53 minutes, it was determined that three board members were absent. According to the Illinois Open Meetings Act, a quorum of three members is required for a meeting. Henyard rescheduled the meeting for Friday, the legal deadline for budget approval, at 1 p.m. Residents expressed frustration and discontent with the delay. The proposed budgets for the fiscal year starting March 1 must be approved by May 31.
