Tsar Events' RUSSIA SURVIVAL GUIDE with Maya Krivchenia: Russian museums. St. Petersburg - YUSUPOV PALACE #RussiaSurvivalGuide
For centuries the Yusupovs had been tsars’ trustworthy and favorite associates.
The Palace on Moika became the Yusupovs' family residence in 1820 and until Bolshevik Revolution remained the richest aristocratic house of Russia. The Yusupov Palace acquired its present appearance in the course of palace’s constructions from 1760 till 1850 done by the famous architects of the time. The staterooms in neoclassical style are remarkable for their rich and elegant decoration. The unique West European works of art as well as musical instruments of the 19th century adorn the palace interior. The germ of the palace is the unique Domestic Theatre built in the Rococo style as a miniature of the world-known Marinsky Theatre.
Yusupovs' palace on Moika is notoriously famous for Rasputin's murder that took place in one of the cell rooms on 16-17 December 1916. The exhibition dedicated to Grigory Rasputin is set up in the original rooms where the tragedy took place.
