Welcome back to Glenn's Piano Blog! This week I'm playing the classic Jobim ballad, "Retrato Em Branco E Preto". I first heard this on the famous "Elis and Tom" album, but it's also been covered by many jazz musicians under it's instrumental title "Zingaro". I recently played it with the great clarinetist/saxophonist Ken Peplowski, which inspired me to start playing it again. Apparently its melody is based off of something from Chopin. I think it's the "cadenza" at the end of his Nocturne in E-flat major op. 9 no. 2, but if someone out there knows for sure please let me know!
