The Cottbusser Thor is specifically shown in an address book published by Neander von Petersheiden in 1799, namely in Old Berlin Dresdener Straße ran towards the city gate via Köpnicker Feld. It was flanked by an inhabited collector's house (customs house) and a Thor guard.[2] The spelling of the gate changed several times over time, including from Cottbusserthor[3] to Cottbusser Thor, Cottbuser Tor,[4] Kottbuser Tor,[5] Cottbuser Tor,[6] Kottbuser Tor[7] to Kottbusser Tor im Year 1930.[8] Since then, the spelling has not changed, although the eponymous city is spelled with a "C".
