Salty winter roads have created an "industry" for brake, fuel and cooler line replacement. Shops looking for a quick way to flare and fabricate brake tubing have found the Flareforce® pneumatic tool handy. Air powered and portable enough for under-chassis work, the Flareforce® became popular with auto body shops and automotive repair and restoration facilities.
In this video, we form precise and, importantly, repeatable flares with this tool. The Flareforce® proved superior to other methods, offering exceptional clamping force on the tube during flare forming. (Care must be taken not to mar the tube's anti-corrosive outer surface.) This holding force keeps the tube from sliding out of position during the flare operation, which is an issue with many flare forming tools. Choice of tubing material can make a difference here.
For the service shop that does restorative brake tubing work, a flare tool must offer predictable, repeatable results. In-chassis, there is limited space when working with existing tubes. Often, experimentation or cutting off badly formed flares is not an option.
When looking for this tool at AGS Company (the original supplier), we were unable to find a current catalog listing. There are several AGS Company videos covering this tool at YouTube. If you have an interest in the Flareforce®, research the tool's current availability.
