French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping shared the belief that nuclear weapons should be excluded from the Ukraine war, as he visited Beijing in an effort to persuade his counterpart to help end the conflict.
He went on to say that the war had ended "decades of peace" and that Xi had reminded them it was "everyone's war" because a UN security member had violated the charter.
Xi also spoke about the ongoing conflict, saying that China is pushing for peace talks and is urging the international community to "maintain a rational restraint" to prevent aggravating the crisis or let it "get out of control."
Macron also urged his counterpart during a series of high-level meetings to reason with Russia on the war, saying he knew he could "count on (Xi)" to "bring Russia to its senses and everyone to the negotiating table."
