Osman Kavala, an opinion statement by Osman Kavala, Turkey
Osman Kavala studied economics at the University of Manchester. He was active in the establishment of a number of business organizations in Turkey. After taking part in relief activities in the aftermath of the 1999 earthquake, he quit his position in the business world and dedicated himself to work in the field of civil society. In 2002, he decided to focus his work on arts and culture and founded Anadolu Kültür together with a team of like-minded individuals from the arts, business world, and civil society. He is a prominent Turkish cultural figure, human rights advocate and businessman who has been imprisoned in Turkey under unvalidated charges since October 2017. Kavala’s continued detention is an outrageous violation of human rights.
In this video, his wife, Ayşe Buğra, reads a letter that was sent from his prison to be part of Requiem for Justice.
