Since 9/11, governments have become especially concerned about radicalisation leading to violent extremism. In response to domestic and international security concerns, home-grown terrorism, countering violent extremism (CVE) and preventing violent extremism (PVE) have emerged as new strands of counterterrorism strategies. How do these paradigms differ? Why is it important to distinguish between both concepts? Which CVE and PVE strategies are appropriate under what conditions? How are they implemented by governmental and non-governmental actors to make societies more resilient against incitement and violence?
