SPLASHDOWN: SpaceX Crew-4 Mission Return to Earth
Dragon has successfully conducted multiple orbit-lowering manoeuvres, jettisoned the trunk, and re-entered Earth’s atmosphere for splashdown off the coast of Florida approximately five hours after undocking the ISS.
Splashdown occurred in the Atlantic at 4:55 p.m. ET, 20:55 UTC. Rescue operators will now recover the spacecraft and ensure the crew's safety. The SpaceX recovery ship Megan (Go Searcher) will lift the capsule onto the back deck of the ship, a helicopter will fly the astronauts back to shore for medical checks and the Crew Dragon will be shipped back to shore.
This splashdown is a day late, as the previous undock attempt was scrubbed due to poor weather in the splashdown zone.
Onboard Crew Dragon Freedom there are 4 astronauts, Kjell Lindgren (Commander), Robert Hines (Pilot), Jessica Watkins (Mission Specialist) and Samantha Cristoforetti (Mission Specialist).
Mission name: Crew-4
Rocket: SpaceX Falcon 9
Splashdown date & time: 14th October 2022 - 4:55 PM EDT
