Many types of children holding hands is a great visual of Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of peace. For Black History Month or Martin Luther King Day, this kirigami tutorial (not origami because there is cutting) is pretty easy, so some elementary-aged kids would be able to do it on their own.
TEACHER GUIDE for KIRIGAMI PEACE CIRCLE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH OR MLK DAY
K-3: Not recommended
4-5: 45 minutes
5-6: 40 minutes
6-8: 35 minutes
9-12: 30 minutes
TEACHERS: Before allowing students to cut, check that their fold is correct and their drawing stretches from side to side. They must understand that you should not cut the hands at the folds on the two sides. The edge is what connects the children, If you cut it, then MLK's message is completely destroyed, ugh!
