Total War: SHOGUN 2 Hero Duel: Hanzo’s Shadows vs Tadakatsu’s Tetsubo Warriors
Clan: Takeda vs Chosokabe
Battle Difficulty: normal
Hanzo's Shadows are the hero version of Kisho Ninja, with far better statistics across the board. However, they are far more expensive to train and have fewer men in their regiment. Despite their small numbers, Hanzo's Shadows are highly deadly units, even able to take on most other hero units and win thanks to their special bombs. While they are superb at head-on fighting, their potential is maximized when they strike from hidden and unexpected locations on the battlefield. Hanzo's Shadows are proportionally stronger to their kisho ninja counterparts than other hero units are to their respective counterparts. Katana heroes, for example, have 1/4 the strength of katana samurai; Hanzo's Shadows have 2/3rds the men of kisho ninja. Unfortunately, due to their low numbers and low range, Hanzo's Shadows are highly vulnerable to arrow and particularly matchlock fire. They can avoid most such attacks through their stealth capabilities. All being said, Hanzo's Shadows are one of the, if not the, best hero unit in the game. When trained by the Date Clan, Hanzo's Shadows have +2 charge bonus.
Tadakatsu's Tetsubo Warriors have the highest base armor of any unit in Total War: Shogun 2, making them highly resistant to arrows. However, they are highly vulnerable to gunpowder-based weaponry due to the fact that it ignores armor and also due to the unit's small regiment size. They are easier to recruit than some other hero units, as they don't need a final tier training building. When trained by the Date Clan, Tadakatsu's Tetsubo Warriors have +2 charge bonus.
