파이 키우는 밀키트 시장...어린이 취향도 '저격'
The pandemic pushed many industries to the brink.
But one area that's been presented with an opportunity for growth... is agricultural technology.
Mainly thanks to changing lifestyles that boosted the popularity of meal kits that makes cooking at home easy.
Lee Eun-jin explains further.
The COVID-19 pandemic turned the joy of dining out... into fear of infection.
This served as an opportunity for the meal kit industry to flourish, providing a variety of foods at home,... adding convenience to the traditional home-cooked meal.
According to market research conducted by Euromonitor International, South Korea's domestic meal kit market showed sharp growth since 2019... and is projected to surpass the 360-million U.S. dollar mark in sales... in the next 3 years.
Meal kits have moved on from being just a convenience fad... and are now a stable industry, furthering their expansion to not only make a wider range of meals for adults, but also cater to children so that they can make foods like pizza or tteok-bokki.
Of course for younger children, the use of heat or microwaves will require supervision.
"The process is simplified. So it's quick and I don't have to stand in front of the hob for a long time... the children get impatient..."
Keeping the ingredients fresh is key,... especially for meal kits aimed at children.
The ingredients are washed with naturally extracted vitamins,... and the freezing temperature for preservation, which is usually between negative 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, is lowered to negative 70 degrees Celsius.
"In the process of freezing meat, crystals are sharp and can sometimes be harmful for the meat. So we try to minimize the freezing time for safe food."
This children's meal kit company has expanded, both online and in stores... and has successfully reached last year's sales figures in just the first half of this year.
"Food consumption trends have changed quickly. Consumers demand health and convenience. We will be looking to foster such venture companies"
Analysts are interested to see
how this market for convenient food will develop and grow further even after the COVID-19 era.
