Alla Cracovienne Op. 7 is one of the more known works by the Polish composer Roman Statkowski. Written for piano and violin, the cheerful piece unfurls in a syncopated manner as that of a Krakowiak.
Roman Statkowski, whose physique is a spitting image of the portrait that graces this channel’s profile, was born in Poland and began his studies with Wladyslaw Zelenski, moved to Russia and enrolled in the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Anton Rubinstein and Nikolai Soloviev. Much of his music shows the influence of Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky, as well as that of German composers such as Strauss and Pfitzner, both whose music Statkowski himself enjoyed.
