Recently when the Karnataka government in India issued an order for a standard uniform in schools, some Muslim female students insisted on wearing a #Hijab thus giving rise to a controversy surrounding the prohibition on wearing of religious symbols in educational institutions. While there is no reference to any prohibition on wearing #hijab in the said notification, it seeks to promote school goers to wear clothing that protects equality and unity and does not hinder religious discord.
The state government order "Invoking 133 (2) of the Karnataka Education Act-1983,” says a uniform style of clothes has to be worn compulsorily. The private school administration can choose a uniform of their choice." "In the event of the administrative committee not selecting a uniform, clothes which disturb equality, integrity and public law and order should not be worn.” The order further added. "Students are free to wear hijabs inside school premises but not in classrooms. This rule is being followed to ensure uniformity in classrooms."
New Delhi Times host Tarek Fatah highlights how the mullahs/maulvis and Indian Islamists misrepresented the “essential components” of faith. He points out that wearing #hijab hasn’t been mentioned in the Quran to be worn on head/cover hair and how these men are luring young women and men of Muslim faith in creating another divide. He also highlights how the international media is negatively portraying India into labelling it as a ‘Fascist’ state.
