STORYLINE:
A suicide attack on a NATO convoy in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar left three civilians dead and four wounded, NATO and police said.
Police said that a vehicle laden with explosives was rammed into the military convoy damaging one heavy jeep and leaving the attacker's vehicle and body scattered in pieces across the road.
An AP Television News crew at the scene filmed Canadian troops securing the road where the attack happened near a major junction leading into the city, once a stronghold of the Taliban.
Major Daryl Morrell, a spokesman for the NATO-led force, blamed the Taliban for the attack, saying the militant group wanted to disturb law and order in Kandahar province.
He said one NATO soldier was wounded, but did not give details about identity or nationality.
Resistance from Taliban-led insurgents has eased a little in recent weeks but a steady stream of suicide attacks has continued following the heaviest period of fighting in Afghanistan since the former rulers were removed from power five years ago in a US-led war in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
