TOP TIPS for growing Physalis are below 👇🏼🧡

🌱I’ve grown them every different way you can think of and I find outside in the ground is best for yield however in the greenhouse they’ll ripen quicker and you’ll be harvesting for longer!
🌱They need a LOT of room to grow, as they’re thuggish plants that spread low to the ground (if not trained like mine is)
🌱They can grow in pots but need plenty of room for the roots to spread out, support if training to grow upwards and lots of water!
🌱 I give them a general purpose liquid feed maybe once a month.
🌱They stay small for ages and then all of a sudden have some growth spurts! Don’t be discouraged when they’re slow to grow at first.
🌱They do NOT like frost! They’ll die. I sow inside early spring and plant out when it’s warm. I usually start harvesting fruit in late summer/early autumn through to late autumn/early winter (if in greenhouse!).
🌱They’re treated as an annual however if overwintered correctly, they’re a perennial.
🌱 Harvest when the husks are turning yellow and crispy. The berry inside should be a nice orange colour! Unripe Physalis can be poisonous.

You can buy seeds for them however they grow perfectly fine from seeds harvested from fruit bought from the supermarket.

The berries have a unique sweet and tart flavor with hints of pineapple. The skin is similar to a tomato and inside there are many small, edible seeds.⁣

I love to eat these raw as a snack or in fruit salads. You can also make pies and jam with them!👌⁣
