Picking up where we left off in last week's episode, the weary travelers, now completely out of food, make their way down valley, hoping that their ride is waiting at the pick-up point we established 9 days ago when this epic began. Due to a slight miscalculation of food rations, we were not able to eat breakfast, or anything for that matter, before embarking on this multi-hour descent, riddled with cows and angry rocks. I cannot ever recall being this hungry and out of it, in such demanding terrain. Good times. I lost about a pound a day on this adventure. Many would pay big money for this miracle diet plan, but we received the benefits at no cost.
If you are just tuning in, this is part three of a bikepacking route we narrowly pulled off in 2016 in the Bolivian Andes. Joey Schusler, Carston Oliver, and Thomas Woodson didn't really know the magnitude of what we were getting ourselves into prior, but can now look back at the insanity of it all as one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. Type 2 fun at its peak.
