The destroyer USS Jarvis was sunk by Japanese air attack early afternoon of August 9, 1942 off the coast of Guadalcanal. There were no survivors, making it one of only two U.S. surface vessels sunk in World War II "with all hands." There is also no memorial. So here are the images and stories of a few of the 248 men who went down with their ship in service to us all.
