Sha’Carri Richardson clocked the fastest time, while former University of Oregon star Jenna Prandini advanced during the opening round of the women’s 200 meters on Thursday at the Olympic trials at Hayward Field. Richardson, who won the 100 meters on Saturday, ran 21.99 seconds, making her the only runner in the four first-round heats to break 22 seconds. Prandini, a two-time Olympian, finished second in her heat.
Other athletes advancing to Friday’s semifinals included Gabby Thomas, the reigning USATF champion; Abby Steiner, the 2022 national champion; and Ducks senior Jadyn Mays. Richardson comfortably won her heat, defeating runner-up Steiner by three-tenths of a second. Thomas posted the second-fastest time of the heats with 22.11 seconds.
