A power outage disrupted the display of real-time flight updates at Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday. The outage lasted less than a minute, but it took three hours to restore all flight information screens. Later, the airport company stated that the power cut was a part of routine electrical maintenance.
Two screens show nothing but blue. The flight information panels are malfunctioning, and a technician rushes to fix them.
Passengers were left in a pickle, unable to see their flight details after an outage struck Taoyuan International Airport around 3 a.m. Although power was back online within a minute, the incident caused several screens in Terminal 1 to crash. Not knowing which boarding gate to head to, many travelers waited in the main hall.

I always check the screens. Something like that could cause big delays to everything on the schedule. This is a rare trip abroad for me.

Some people really get worked up if they can’t see the flight information. If you can’t find your boarding gate, that could be a problem.
Travelers were left in disbelief, as all the boarding gate screens were down. Some feared going to the wrong gate and potentially missing their flight. Technicians were sent immediately, and after three hours of repairs, all displays were restored by 7:12 a.m. In a statement, the airport explained that the incident at 3:12 a.m. was not a power failure, but a part of routine maintenance.
Summer is peak season for international travel. At Taiwan’s biggest airport, even a small mishap could have big consequences.
