This area comprises of large swathes of the 5th arrondissement and can be found on the Rive Gauche (left bank) of the Seine. The name ‘Latin Quarter’ derives from the fact that, during the Middle Ages, students of the nearby Sorbonne University would converse with one another in Latin.
Today, the vibrant and buzzing area remains a student hub; there are plenty of budget friendly cafés to discover in the area, as well as Anglophone bookshops, and a surprising amount of medieval architecture.
