Kazak rugs were originally made by the Armenian people in the Caucasus. Later in the 80's Afghan weavers who were staying in Pakistan were inspired by the designs of Kazak rugs and started creating their versions that are more designer friendly and modern.
Now the Afghan Hazara people in Pakistan are continuing to weave these hand knotted works of art.
Kazak rugs have geometrical designs and boast of a beautiful antique finish because of their low to medium pile, the soft abrash effect during weaving, and a special wash at the end of the process.
There are 3 different types of Kazak rugs:
1. Regular or Commercial Kazak - has the lowest knot density and features large patterns
2. Super Kazak - has the highest knot density and finer patterns
3. Kazak Azari - has similar or higher knot density with the regular kazak rugs but features the most diverse kinds of patterns. These rugs are the most expensive Kazaks because of the extremely high-quality materials including the use of Ghazni wool.
