After doing the shooting for range report three on the Mini 14, I came away very unimpressed with this rifles accuracy. I was averaging groups greater than 4 inches at 100 yards. This was particularly annoying because previous trips to the range had produced 3 inch groups at the same distance. After closer inspection of the rifle after I got home I realized that the back scope ring was loose.
In an attempt to truly test the Mini 14's accuracy I tightened up the loose scope ring and headed back to the range with lots of ammunition. I was surprised by the results I got. I was able to get a number of groups at or smaller than 2 inches at 100 yards. At this point I feel that the Ruger Mini 14 is capable of 3 moa (3 inch groups at 100 yards) groups. It is possible to get smaller groups by the overall average is 3 inches.
At this point I have fired over 1000 rounds though this particular Mini and have been very impressed with it's reliably as well as it accuracy. I still wish that it was possible to get 2 inch groups at 100 yards with the Ruger Mini 14.
