In this video we will be synthesising acetanilide (N-phenylacetamide)
It is an organic compound formed by acetylation of aniline
There are many ways of acetylation of aniline. You can either use Acetic anhydride or acetyl Chloride as a donor of acyl group. In this video I have used acetyl Chloride for acetylation of aniline.
2ml each of aniline acetyl Chloride and acetic acid is taken .
Acetyl Chloride and Glacial acetic acid act as acetylating mixture.
This is a nucleophilic substitution reaction where Aniline is nucleophile and Acyl group is electrophile. The H atom of NH2 group of aniline is replaced by the COCH3- (acyl) group.
The crystals of acetanilide are sheet/flake shaped which are pretty interesting to see while recrystallization.
This video has been recorded and edited with much effort and difficulty. Lack of proper equipment and chemicals can make video look unfinished. I request your love and support in donations also.
