Today, we leave the metropolis of Medellin and journey deep into Colombia's Andean cloud forest. The little town of JARDIN is located 130km South of Medellin along a narrow single lane highway; our bus was often less than a few feet away from the edge of a sheer cliff.
The world "Jardin" actually means "garden" in Spanish, and upon arriving, it was immediately apparent that this town definitely lives up to its name. Surrounded by dense and lush rain forests with an abundance of flora and fauna, Jardin is a nature lover's paradise.
There was so much to do in this little town, and we felt that the 2 days that we spent here were not enough! Here are a few of the highlights:
- Trying street food and hanging out at the various cafes/pubs that line the central square.
- Ride the La Garrucha, a rickety gondola/cable car which takes you up to an amazing viewpoint of the town.
- Take a hike to visit the myriad of waterfalls that dot the area, one of the most popular is Cascade del Amor (the Waterfall of Love). Legend has it that if you and a special someone kiss in-front of the waterfall, your love will never be broken! (just kidding, I made that up...).
- Book a tour to the hidden waterfall in a cave, Cueva del Esplendor.
- Visit Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas ([ Ссылка ]) to witness mating dance of the elusive cocks-of-the-rock.
