The siege that ended nearly four years of Islamic State (IS) control over Iraq’s Kirkuk Province left much of the area in ruins. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) began supporting the Hawija Primary Health Care Center and Hawija Public Hospital there to provide medical treatment for people returning to the area to rebuild their lives. The demand for medical care grows every day, says Mohammed Bahjat, MSF assistant project manager, as more and more people return to their homes from displaced persons camps and Kirkuk city.
