Perfect logistics are necessary to optimize the recycling economy. The manufacturers of waste collection vehicles, pipe-cleaning systems, sweeping devices or winter services machines push the limits of what is possible, and thus, with innovative new features, save time, resources, and money.

Dr. Johannes F. Kirchhoff, Managing Partner Kirchhoff Ecotec GmbH: “The normal truck chassis is actually made for trips between Munich and Hamburg at 80 kilometers an hour on the motorway. But we use it in inner-city traffic. That means it stops a thousand to one thousand five hundred times a day. So we need a drive form that respects that. That means electric brakes, not converting braking energy into heat, but making it useable for the drive electrically. Modern logistics systems, and modern waste collection vehicles must be able to do that today."

On the open-air site at IFAT visitors see trucks in action. These live VAK demonstrations showcase novelties from the automotive and construction industry. Over sixty different machines take part.
Schmidt Kommunalfahrzeuge’s exhibition fleet is led by a 33 cubic meter front loader platform on a four axle chassis.

Rainer Zinke, Head of Engineering and Service, Schmidt Kommunalfahrzeuge: “For our customers that has the great advantage that they can now use a front loader, where until now only a rear loader worked. Rear loaders mostly have the disadvantage that they need more time going to the container and for pressing the material, and that they are manned with two crew. The front loader only needs one and this of course saves a lot of expenses. The front loader also makes more sense with work safety. Nobody has to get out and handle the container, the driver sits safely in his cab and can empty the container from there.”

But the further development of the machines is not only about safety at work. Sweepers, for example, offer great optimization potential with point output, consumption or dust pollution. So AEBI SCHMIDT binds dust particles from the sucked-in air in a cycle procedure with water and thus reduces the fine dust by up to 95 percent. The company Hako, however, reduces the acoustic load.

Dr. Olaf Heinemann, Marketing and Product Management at Hako: "Hako is introducing a new machine which is better with environmental things than the earlier model. Till now we used to determine the noise level for the motor sounds of the sweepers. We never took into account the sweeping sounds of brooms. We have now managed, together with the manufacturer, to develop a broom that is so quiet that all the noise benefits of the basic unit actually impact in real work conditions. And that is a real innovation. “

That’s why these innovations are being exhibited in the world's largest industry get-together of the recycling and environmental sector, IFAT.
