If anyone is still wondering about the devastating power of .17 WSM (Winchester Super Magnum), here's some proof. Usually I just shoot these coyotes in the head, but it's been several times now where I just give it to them in the ribs, and they either drop in their tracks or hit the dirt within 20 or 30 yards. This kill was from about 75 yards with a .17 WSM, 20 grain Hornady load, placed right behind the shoulder. I was once a die-hard .17 HMR shooter until I bought the .17 WSM a few years ago. The .17 HMR has been relegated to squirrel duty ever since.
