(11 Sep 2015) Jewish faithful rushed to local markets in Jerusalem on Friday for some last-minute food and grocery shopping ahead of Sunday's Jewish New Year celebrations.
Shoppers queued at the markets to get a good deal on fish, a traditional dish on the eve of the two-day holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
Jewish families also mark Rosh Hashanah by eating apples and honey and other traditional foods symbolising sweetness and prosperity.
The New Year holiday is celebrated not with fireworks and champagne but with family meals and introspection.
The devout believe one's destiny is set for the coming year on the holiday and prayer can ensure a good year.
