Huachuma is the Quechua word for the plant commonly known as the San Pedro cactus. Native to the Andean Mountain range of South America, Huachuma is referred to as San Pedro (Saint Peter in Spanish) because it is said to be the key that opens the gates of heaven. 🌵✨
It is often referred to as “Abuelo” or “grandfather” in Spanish, because of the wisdom and lessons that can be accessed during an experience with this ancestral medicine.
San Pedro is a tall columnar cactus related to the Peyote cactus and contains the same psychoactive ingredient (mescaline). Its origins can be traced back over 4000 years through archaeological evidence that was found in a region of Peru once home to the Chavin empire, the first developed Peruvian civilization.
San Pedro is a Master Plant that has the potential to catalyze deep healing on many levels and has much to offer those looking for a profound entheogenic experience.
Participants of San Pedro ceremonies often report having a spiritual or out-of-body experience, feeling inspired and creative, releasing suppressed trauma, experiencing a heart opening, and gaining a better awareness of self. It is typically taken as a tea made from the most potent part of the cactus. 🍵
It has been said that the goal of the huchumero (a) - the shaman serving the medicine and leading the ceremony - is to make the participant ‘bloom’ during the ceremony - meaning to make the subconscious ‘open like a flower’, like the night-blooming San Pedro cactus. 🪷
