Zimbabwe’s Senate has pushed through a raft of amendments to the Constitution that will see the President's powers to appoint judges and remove the requirement of a running mate in presidential elections. The current laws allow the President to appoint the vice-presidents, however - in the Constitution, this was supposed to change in 2023 to have the President, First Vice-President and Second Vice-President stand for election as a team. The Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 2) Bill would see the current laws retained. Constitutional Law Expert Dr Thompson Chengeta told SABC News the proposed changes are illegal.
