Gentleman. Fragrance is tricky and if you want to talk like a frag head you need to know all the men’s cologne lingo and terminology so you can up your fashion and men’s grooming game. Let’s go over some key words now:
Sillage – often confused with Projection – is how far your scent trail will last. So, if a spicy senorita walks past you and you catch her scent trail for awhile you know her fragrance has excellent sillage.
Projection – is how far away somebody can stand from you and smell your fragrance. The general rule is you want it to be about 3 feet. If your spicy senorita can smell you from farther than that you’ve probably put too much on.
Longevity – how long your fragrance will actually last. For example most EDPs like Rebel & Hero will last around 4-6 hours.
Dry Down – is one of those terms you hear fragrance pros talk about a lot. It’s really just the transition to the base notes and the scents those base notes give off…the main notes of the fragrance.
Top Notes – the first opening scent of the cologne. Don’t get tricked into thinking that is the main scent which many men do. Fragrances like Rebel transition big-time from the opening note almost making it feel like a totally different scent.
