We don’t want no hate we come from “the Gate”
The time has come – no one needs to change it up more than us mob here in Walgett, black and white. No-one needs to Sing Loud more than us. What we shared to make this song – respect and mindset correct – is what we’re singing loud about.
People have tried to take away our pride by giving up on us, saying to the whole country we’re violent kids who don’t want to learn, who bully other kids and hit teachers. We want to be better than that, we want to work together and we will change it up. Well, what we’ve been doing while some people have been busy making noise about us without asking us, is backing ourselves to walk together for real Reconciliation in our school community.
Us kids worked together with our music teacher - a white man, our mentor - a black fella from a different nation, our senior leader - a black woman, to write this song. It’s a start, and after this we’ll write another song or make a painting or do something else because we’re never giving up.
Being black and proud is hard in this community – people leave Walgett all the time. We don’t need to go anywhere else, the place to start is here on tribal grounds.
This is what we want – and we’re going to sing it loud.
