I discuss different ways to measure poverty, and how Mollie Orshansky developed poverty thresholds in the US. I then discuss some problems with this method of determining who is in poverty, who is more likely to be in poverty, and some government policies that are proposed to try to alleviate poverty and income inequality. I close with a discussion of the extreme world poverty in many parts of the world.
