(22 Nov 2014) Around a hundreds far-right activists and local residents gathered in Infernetto, a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Rome on Saturday to protest against a local centre which hosts refugees and minor migrants.
24 of the unaccompanied minors, mostly aged 16 and 17, were being moved to this centre for their own security after clashes broke out last week in the working-class neighbourhood of Tor Sapienza, eastern Rome.
Saturday's protest was organised by far-right movement CasaPound, with anti-immigrants party Northern League joining in to blame foreigners for crimes in the neighbourhood.
Simone Di Stefano, president of CasaPound, claimed Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's government cared more about illegal migrants coming from Africa than Italian citizens.
Police patrols have been stationed outside the refugee centre in order to avoid any violence.
