When plans A, B and C all fell apart, plan D meant deep and steep! Couloir Gigord (no, i had never heard of it either...) is to the lookers left of Chevalier Couloir on the Petite Aig. Vert, and is similar in length and gradient but much straighter and cleaner! Indeed it is probably steeper for longer too, making it a bit more extreme. I boot packed up the untouched couloir in waist deep snow, breaking a trail which sadly nobody was going to follow! I decided to start skiing from about 3/4 of the way up due to time constraints, but initially the snow felt too unstable to risk a jump turn... so instead i resorted to the trusty downhill kick turn! When i did eventually open out into some proper turns they were deep, deep deep! It was such a good feeling skiing something steep and deep which hadnt been touched by anybody in a long time, perhaps all season! Just remember the bergschrund at the end...
