IMPORTANT: It does not take 40 minutes to fold the model, I just talk too much.
This model was inspired by:
Numberphile's "5-Sided Square"- [ Ссылка ]
Roger Alperin, Barry Hayes, and Robert Lang's paper "Folding the Hyperbolic Crane"- [ Ссылка ]
I want to note that there are actually 3 (as far as I know) normal variants for the 6-sided square, the third having three corners are flat on the table, two corners partially on the table, and the final one up in the air. I believe this version is also more stable than the alternating corners variation (or chair configuration if you know organic chemistry) and it also fits within a cube comprised of the original paper dimensions.
Special thanks to Cliff Stoll for being so excited about the concept and everybody who encouraged and helped me with my interest in origami.
